Vietnam
Colonial Grandeur & Emerald Seas
Hanoi • Ha Long Bay • Da Nang • Hoi An • Ho Chi Minh City
Begin in Hanoi at the legendary Sofitel Legend Metropole, where I've stayed myself, and start your first morning with Hanoi's famous egg coffee, which was invented right here. Explore the Old Quarter and the limestone peaks of Ninh Binh with a private guide, then cruise Ha Long Bay aboard an intimate luxury ship, kayaking through caves among nearly 2,000 islands. Unwind beachfront at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula, slip into village life at Four Seasons The Nam Hai near lantern-lit Hoi An, and finish in Saigon's energy at the Park Hyatt.
♦ UNIQUE EXPERIENCE: A private sampan ride through Hoi An's Ancient Town as floating lanterns drift past at dusk.
Italy
A Honeymoon of Romance & La Dolce Vita
Venice • Porto Venere • Tuscany • Amalfi Coast • Rome
Begin among the quiet canals and marble palazzi of Venice, then trade the city for the Italian Riviera, where pastel harbors and the cliffside villages of the Cinque Terre await. Slow down in Tuscany's medieval hill towns and vineyards, with long lunches and wine poured where it was made. Drift along the Amalfi Coast to the cliffside Hotel Santa Caterina, a longtime favorite of Hollywood legends and world leaders, and the colorful village of Positano tumbling down to the sea, and finish in Rome, where history waits around every corner, each stop paired with a hotel full of character.
♦ UNIQUE EXPERIENCE: A private farmhouse cooking class in Tuscany, making handmade pasta and pairing it with local wine.
Japan
Timeless Tradition & Refined Elegance
Tokyo • Hakone • Kyoto • Osaka • Hiroshima & Miyajima
Begin high above Shinjuku at the Park Hyatt Tokyo, where on a clear day Mt. Fuji appears on the horizon. Discover the city district by district, from the serene forest paths of Meiji Shrine to the famous scramble of Shibuya Crossing, and add a morning at a sumo stable to watch wrestlers train up close. Then retreat to the mountains at The Mitsui Hakone, an exclusive ryokan with private open-air onsen baths and a multi-course kaiseki dinner, and glide across Lake Ashi with Fuji rising beyond. In Kyoto, stay at Hotel Granvia and wander centuries-old temples and the towering Arashiyama bamboo grove. Take day trips from Osaka to Nara, where gentle deer bow for their treats, and to Himeji Castle, Japan's grandest original castle. Finish in Hiroshima, then cross to Miyajima for the "floating" torii gate.
♦ UNIQUE EXPERIENCE: A kaiseki dinner in Kyoto hosted by a geiko or maiko (an apprentice geiko), and on another day, a traditional tea ceremony with a tea master.
